Distractions

I subscribe to a few blogs that focus on simplifying your life.  Since the loss of Katie and Noah, I have been on a mission to live life in a different way.  The first several years were spent just trying to survive.

I know many of you are in that situation as you read this posting and you  are thinking “I don’t care about changing my life right now, I’m just trying to get through the day.”  I get it, I’ve been there.  However, I also know there are people that follow this blog that have made it through the dark dark days and are now starting to reevaluate their lives and how they want to reconstruct it in a way that allows them to live peacefully.

  1. That is an excellent article. Distraction definitely have their place in the healing process, as long as you allow yourself the time you need to meet your other needs and to heal.

    I started learning how to play the violin in earnest after my son died two years ago. For the first year and a half it was very easy to be distracted by anything that would keep me from practicing. Now I’m finally over the hurdle of learning how to play well enough to be able to stand listening to myself and the violin itself has become a pleasant and productive distraction. Making creative, lasting changes in one’s life requires determination; the grieving Dad’s sense of “if I don’t do this, I’ll die” can be a pretty good motivator as well.

    Kelly thanks for this insight and the article. It is more than thought-provoking. It is actionable. I need to move into some of these strategies soon. Been 4 painful years……
